National Rx Security Now Supplies GA approved Rx Paper

Effective October 1, 2011, the state of Georgia requires that every hard copy prescription drug order for any Schedule II controlled substance be written on Board of Pharmacy approved security paper. National Rx Security supplies GA Board of Pharmacy approved security paper which includes the state of GA seal and sequential numbering printed on each Rx sheet.

This law requires that all GA approved security paper have one or more of each of these industry-recognized security feature categories: to prevent unauthorized copying; to prevent erasure or modification; to prevent the use of counterfeit forms. All National Rx prescription pads are tamper resistant according to these standards, and all are equipped with more than one security feature in the above-mentioned categories, including micro-printing and the use of heat sensitive ink.

In addition to these regulations, the state of Georgia requires that Schedule II prescription pad paper include the Georgia Board of Pharmacy seal of approval on the paper. Furthermore, all approved security paper must be sequentially numbered and have an identifying lot number.

Give Kids the World, a wish-granting organization based in Orlando, Florida, is celebrating 25 years of making dreams come true for children with life-threatening illnesses. Staff, volunteers (or Angels, as they’re called), and Disney characters create magical, cost-free vacations for children in need and their families at the Give Kids the World Village just outside of Orlando-area attraction and theme parks. Employees of National Rx Security have experienced, first hand, the impact this organization makes- where children can delight in their heart’s desire around the clock for an entire week- whether that means teatime with a princess or a triple-decker ice cream sundae for breakfast!

FL DOH Extends NEW Prescription Pad Regulation Deadline to August 29, 2011

The Florida Department of Health has extended the date by which prescriptions must meet new security regulations. Originally July 1, the new date by which all prescriptions must meet the new requirements is August 29, 2011.

New Requirements for FL Rx Vendors

The Florida Department of Health (DOH) has initiated new prescription pad requirements for FL Rx vendors. National Rx Security is an approved vendor based on the new security feature requirements.

The screen, in addition to the other features including micro-print, ink color and characteristics and thumbprint, is an easily identifiable feature to aid in the recognition of an altered prescription.

All National Rx Security scripts* green. Hidden under the green ink is a screen that will appear when tampered with. If National Rx Security script is photocopied, the word “VOID” will appear in the area in which the prescriptions are written, thus revealing an illegitimate script.

National Rx Security Feature: Thumbprint

The security feature, ‘thumbprint,’ uses heat sensitive technology to determine a prescription’s authenticity. This technology employs thermocratic ink to ‘hide’ a message that is only revealed when heat is applied. On the back of every National Rx Security prescription, there is an area for this security feature to be tested.

The thumbprint graphic on the back of our scripts will reveal the validity of the prescription. On an authentic prescription, the word, ‘SAFE,’ will appear when the thumbprint graphic is rubbed vigorously.

All National Rx Security features are listed on the back of the prescription. It is advisable for pharmacists and physicians to check the authenticity of each prescription they fill and write by validating each security feature. National Rx Security Feature: Ink Color & Characteristics

National Rx Security Prescription pads are printed using a special soy ink. For all states, with the exception of New Jersey, this ink is green in color. New Jersey prescriptions are blue. The color of the ink is one security component of the scripts. Each prescription comes with a warning that the script must appear green in order to authenticate its validity.

The ink also has built-in security characteristics. The ink avoids erasure, alterations or tampering by solvents. Any attempt to tamper with a National Rx Security prescription in this way will be easily detectable, either by smudging or discoloring the script.

Ink color and characteristics fall into the category of ‘industry-recognized’ security features. These features are easy to identify and/or validate tampering attempts. National Rx Security Feature Spotlight: Micro Print

In April 2008, the U.S. government passed new legislation regarding tamper resistant prescription pads. Over the course of several months, states began to adapt their laws accordingly, and most states now require certain tamper resistant features for all prescriptions. National Rx Security prescription pads meet and exceed state and federal legislation with regard to Medicaid and Medicare.

This week, our security feature spotlight is micro-printing. Micro-printing is small wording, visible through magnification. Each National Rx Security prescription blank is equipped with micro-printing along the border of the script. The words, “Hologram Rx Script Shield” are repeated along the entire border. This printing cannot be copied, scanned or duplicated. In this way, micro-printing is used as a security feature to denote an authentic prescription.
