Micro Printing references the microscopic lettering that appears in the border of each prescription blank. Thermocratic Ink refers to a special area on the back of each blank where there is an image of a thumbprint. When rubbed vigorously, the word "SAFE" becomes visible. Working Together For A Better Community8.18.2010

For the past 20 years, National Rx Security has been working closely with physicians to provide the leading technology in prescription pad security. On a recent trip to Kenya, National Rx Security President, Dan McCaffery had the opportunity to engage in a different kind of work. The work of service.

Each day in Kenya was a profound exposure to one of the several slum neighborhoods in the capital of Nairobi. The simple act of walking down the street afforded the opportunity to engage with many of the children who would gather to inquire, "How are you?" Arriving at any of the on-site locations where Africa Yoga Project works allowed the chance to meet and speak with the people. Participating in outreach, such as teaching and practicing yoga, as well as sharing with the children was an inspiring experience. In one of these instances, two twin boys stood out with their inquisitive and sociable personalities. They wanted to speak, hold hands, be held, and interact. Their smiles were only eclipsed by their pealing laughter.

Through this interaction, it became known that both twins were suffering from severe hernias and were each in need of an operation. While the element of suffering was absent from their faces, the mother vocalized the reality of the situation. Without the means to seek medical attention, the two boys would have to live with the condition.

When Dan became aware of the facts, he was moved to act. On behalf of his long held belief of 'working together for a better community,' Dan, in partnership with Africa Yoga Project and 2 other donors, committed to providing the funds necessary for the operations. Within days, the two had left the hospital happy and healthy.

In July, National Rx Security President and one other employee traveled to Kenya in support of Non-Profit Organization, Africa Yoga Project. Based out of Nairobi, Africa Yoga Project uses the transformative power of yoga to empower communities and change lives. The team from National Rx Security had the unique opportunity to see this work taking place with great success in some of the harshest slum environments.

Though the focus of Africa Yoga Project is around yoga, the impact on the people and communities involved extends far beyond the physical practice. 42 trained Kenyan yoga teachers are paid by Africa Yoga Project to teach over 2000 people in and around their communities weekly. Students and teachers alike experience the healing power of yoga on a physical, mental and emotional level. For the 42 teachers, the responsibility to lead a class and hold a space for healing has enriched their lives beyond measure. All speak of transformation, on and off the yoga mat.

The work that Africa Yoga Project continues to do both within the slums of the capital, as well as out in the bush with the Masai tribe is inspiring. A couple of weeks ago, our blog reflected our support of an incredible non-profit, Give Kids the World. Today we ask you for your vote. Tamper Resistant Prescription Pads Required for the State of Washington, Effective July 1, 20106.9.2010

Beginning July 1, 2010, the state of Washington will require that every prescription must be written on tamper-resistant prescription pad or paper approved by the state board. National Rx Security is a Washington state board approved Rx pad vendor.

With the deadline less than a month away, physicians that haven't made the switch to tamper-resistant prescriptions yet, can prepare now by placing an order with a Washington state board approved vendor. A Letter from the President of National Rx Security5.5.2010

Twenty years ago, with pharmaceutical drug abuse the second leading form of drug abuse across the nation, there existed a growing need for ways to address the national edidemic. It was out of this need that National Rx Security was born.

As an entrepreneur in 1990, I began to investigate different businesses to initiate that would, in some way, give something back to society. It was during my research that I discovered the alarming statistic regarding pharmaceutical drug abuse in the United States. Correlated research revealed that illegal drug abuse had a severely detrimental effect on much of the population, and detailed the numerous crimes related to drug abuse.

In the case of illicit pharmaceutical drug use, associated crimes can easily affect doctors and their practices. The means by which someone may illegally obtain and/or falsify a prescription for narcotic drugs put physicians at risk for probation, tarnishing of reputation, and even loss of license. Though there are several ways that a criminal may succeed in this illegal action, the most common method is by stealing or modifying an Rx form from a doctor, which contains registered information such as DEA and other license information. The criminal can then use a counterfeit script themselves, or sell blank doctor-personalized scripts to others. Because the scripts are traceable back to the doctor, a consequence can be an official police investigation of the practitioner, and subsequent legal action.

National Rx Security was formed after almost two years of industry research, as a company to design, manufacture and distribute tamper resistant prescription blanks. The mission from day one has been to stem the tide of Rx blank forgeries and related crime across the nation. Prior to launching our tamper resistant Rx product into the marketplace, our management met with top officials of the Drug Enforcement Agency in Washington, D.C.. Tamper-Resistant Prescription Pads for the State of Washington4.14.2010

Effective July 1, 2010, the state of Washington will require that every prescription must be written on a tamper-resistant prescription pad or paper approved by the Washington state board (RCW 18.64.500). This new state law was passed in 2009 to combat unauthorized, duplicated, altered, or otherwise counterfeit prescriptions. Beginning in July, Washington state prescriptions must be purchased from board-approved Rx pad vendors. National Rx Security is an approved vendor.

Each Washington state prescription will have to contain: one or more industry-recognized feature to prevent duplication of a completed or blank form, such as the word “COPY” appearing when photocopied; one or more industry-recognized feature that resists erasure and alteration of information written by the prescriber, such as a patterned background; and one or more industry-recognized feature that prevents the use of counterfeit forms, such as a complete list of all security features on the prescription blank aiding the pharmacist in determining its authenticity and compliance with the law. Board-approved Washington state tamper-resistant prescriptions will display a seal of approval, confirming that the pad/paper contains all three industry-recognized characteristics. National Rx Security equips all prescription blanks with these as well as other features for counterfeit protection, and asks that practitioners take reasonable precautions in safeguarding your tamper-resistant prescription pads to protect against theft or unauthorized use.

This law will also meet the federal requirements implemented in 2009 requiring all written prescriptions for covered outpatient drugs paid for by Medicaid to be written on tamper-resistant prescription paper.
